FEES FOR SERVICE

Latchkey Therapy PLLC happily accepts Aetna insurance including the NC State Health Plan or SHP. I believe therapy should be affordable and attainable to the community at large and to that end, sliding scale rates are set aside for clients monthly. Please inquire about reduced-fee options. I offer a detailed superbill upon request to seek reimbursement from your insurance company if you are out-of-network. I will address billing before the first session so there aren't any unexpected surprises.

This optional 15–20 minute video chat is an opportunity for us to briefly connect, discuss what you’re looking for in therapy, and see if we might be a good fit. A secure video link will be sent to you prior to your scheduled chat. This is more for client comfort and is not mandatory.

Fee: Complimentary

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to therapy, and begin identifying your goals. We’ll explore relevant history and current concerns while establishing a foundation for our work together.

Fee: $150 for individuals | $185 for couples

Your regular therapy session is 60 minutes. Most clients begin weekly, which allows us time to fully explore the issues bringing you to therapy, establish rapport, and build momentum toward your goals. We’ll customize the frequency of sessions together based on your needs, goals, and availability.

Fee: $125 for individuals | $150 for couples

What is therapy, and why should I invest in it?

Therapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained professional to better understand yourself, navigate challenges, and create meaningful change. Sometimes you need help getting through a difficult season; sometimes you’re tired of repeating the same patterns and want something different. Either way, therapy is an investment in yourself—and one of the most worthwhile forms of self-care.

What brings people to Latchkey Therapy?

Life. Many of my clients never considered themselves “therapy people.” They may have put it off, thinking they should be able to handle things on their own, until they realize they feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or simply not like themselves.

You might be in the right place if you’re:

  • Experiencing persistent anxiety, sadness, anger, or overwhelm

  • Navigating divorce, dating, empty-nesting, caregiving, or other major life changes

  • Struggling with self-esteem, confidence, or feeling comfortable in your own skin

  • Having difficulty in your relationships or repeating patterns you don't understand

  • Looking at your life and thinking, “How did I get here—and when am I going to feel like myself again?”

  • Trying to adjust to changes in your body, identity, family, relationships, or stage of life

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

What happens during a session?

Sessions are approximately 60 minutes and take place either through secure telehealth or in my private North Raleigh office. We'll start with what's bringing you in, get to know each other, and identify the areas where you'd like to see change.

Starting therapy can feel a little daunting. That's completely normal. My goal is to make the process feel comfortable, collaborative, and human—not like you're sitting across from a stranger with a clipboard.

How long will I need therapy?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people need only a few sessions to work through a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to address deeper patterns or ongoing concerns.

Many clients begin with weekly sessions, then transition to every other week and eventually monthly as they make progress. We'll adjust the frequency based on your goals, needs, schedule, and budget.

What can I expect from Kris in therapy?

You can expect me to show up prepared, listen carefully, challenge you when it's helpful, and treat you with respect and without judgment.

I believe therapy works best when we're a team. You're the expert on your life; I'm the professional who brings perspective, training, and tools to help you understand what's happening and decide what you want to do differently.

And one thing I take very seriously: I will show up for you. I know that getting to therapy can require time, money, vulnerability, and sometimes a heroic amount of rearranging. I don't take that commitment lightly.

What if we're not a good fit?

Finding the right therapist matters. If you don't feel heard, supported, or like we're making progress together, I want you to tell me.

Sometimes we can adjust our approach. Other times, another therapist may simply be a better fit for what you need. If that's the case, I'll help you find an appropriate referral rather than taking it personally.

Depending on your needs, that might mean connecting you with a therapist who specializes in areas such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, substance use, or other specialty treatment.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Information shared in therapy is generally kept confidential, with limited exceptions required or permitted by law. These limits can include situations involving serious risk of harm, suspected abuse or neglect, or certain legal requirements.

I'll review confidentiality and its limits with you during your initial intake so you know what to expect before we begin our work together.

I'm worried about the cost. What are my options?

I understand that starting therapy is an investment, particularly when budgets are tight.

Latchkey Therapy accepts Aetna insurance, and I can provide a Superbill for clients who may have out-of-network benefits. Because every insurance plan is different, I recommend contacting your insurance company before your first session and asking specifically about your out-of-network mental health benefits, deductible, reimbursement rate, and any required documentation.

I also participate with Open Path Collective to help make therapy more accessible to qualifying uninsured and underinsured clients.

For current session fees and more information about payment options, visit Fees & Services.

Can therapy really help someone like me?

Yes. Therapy can help you understand what's keeping you stuck, develop new ways of responding, improve your relationships, and feel more at home in your own life.

But therapy isn't something I do to you. The most effective work happens when we collaborate. You're the expert on you. I'll bring the clinical training, curiosity, perspective, and tools; you'll bring your experience and willingness to explore.

We'll figure out the rest together.

What's the next step?

Ready to see if we're a good fit?

Start with a complimentary 15–20 minute consultation. It's a chance for us to briefly connect, talk about what you're looking for, and decide whether Latchkey Therapy feels like the right place to begin.

Therapy FAQs

Good Faith Estimate & Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act

Under the No Surprises Act, individuals who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use their insurance to pay for services have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of their care.

At Latchkey Therapy, you may request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services. If you are uninsured or choose to self-pay and schedule your appointment at least 3 business days in advance, you can receive a written estimate of the expected charges for your scheduled services. You may also request an estimate at any time before receiving care.

A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate of expected charges, not a bill. Your actual services or treatment needs may change, and additional services that could not reasonably be anticipated when the estimate was prepared may not be included.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate provided for that provider or service, you may have the right to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Visit Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services page for more information about your rights or call (877) 696-6775.

To request a Good Faith Estimate or ask questions about expected costs, please contact Latchkey Therapy before scheduling your services.
